The epitome of heroism and loss. A local firefighter emerges from the smoke after a blaze destroyed a house just north of Wellington. I love how this image is framed with just the slightest amount of rubble in the foreground.

It's always tough to see moments like this, luckily no one was hurt too bad. Emergency crews carry a child who was pinned in a car after a wreck just outside of Wellington on a rainy day in August.

One of the most raw, emotional photos I took while at the newspaper. Family members share an embrace as fire continues to rip through their house.

Wellington vs. Andale has grown into a lopsided rivalry in favor of AHS. However in week one of the 2011 high school football season Wellington, under the tutelage of a former Andale assistant, was able to upset the Indians on the road. This picture really captures the total team effort the victory required.

Valentine's Day 2011: Ryan Jenkins, senior, goes up for the final shot at the buzzer in the game against Maize South. The shot would fall and Wellington would win.

The Wellington High School Lady-Crusaders celebrate a home run by freshman Ryleigh Buck. Buck would go on to have a stellar high school softball career, even snagging a spot on the Women's National Baseball Team in 2015.

After an amazing season and a hard-fought state championship game, the South Haven Cardinals look on with second place medals around their necks, as St. John-Hudson hoists the 1A Division One Championship Trophy in Emporia's White Auditorium.

Jason Haydon, junior, defeats Forrest Elder from Clearwater High School during Regionals on Friday, Feb. 17, 2012 and would take fourth place to qualify for the 4A State Tournament.

The visiting Kansas Cannons retire the side in a game against the Wellington Heat.
